City centre naturescapes.
Coyotes scouting the footpaths at midday,
Magpies sassing in the front yard,
Vegetation poking up through the concrete,
Pigeons in the office windows.
When we planned a city
Of driveways, curbs and elms for shade
And paths for walking little dogs
Did we think it would be only us and the robins?
